A short visit at the Veljuša MonasteryFrom a visit, last week, in the Veljuša Monastry located in the village of the same name, just a few kilometers outside Strumica. The monastery's architecture represents in a good way Macedonian 1000s style. Built in 1080 by the monk Manuel, who later became Strumicas bishop. The monastery was set on fire in 1913, but has been carefully restored afterwards and today, as you can see, open to visitors. At this, my first visit, I managed, however, to miss the macedonian cross, that was for the first time found here (painted on a wall) and later became a symbol for the whole of the Macedonian Orthodox Church. And there is loads of other intresting detail to discover, so there is reason for multiple visits. Source: Panocomp
